Duct Tape

Duct tape from 3M and Duck: utility, heavy duty and Scotch grades in 1.88 in. width in 10 through 60 yd rolls, in gray and a range of colors and patterns. Duct tape is graded by thickness and adhesive, which shows up as how long it holds and how cleanly it removes — a utility grade is fine for a temporary bundle or a quick repair, a heavy duty grade holds outdoors and under tension. It is worth saying plainly that duct tape is not rated for HVAC duct joints; heat and airflow dry the adhesive out and the correct product there is foil tape or mastic. Duct tape leaves residue on a finished surface and should not be used where a masking or painter’s tape belongs.
