Evaporative and ultrasonic humidifiers from AIRCARE, Honeywell and Levoit covering roughly 70 to 3700 sq ft, with the AIRCARE replacement wicks. Match the unit to the square footage and to how often you want to fill it — a 1 gal unit covers a bedroom and needs daily attention, a 5.4 gal console runs a floor of a house. Evaporative units use a wick and a fan, self-regulate to the room humidity, and leave no white dust; ultrasonic units are quieter but will put minerals into the air unless you run distilled water. Wicks are model-specific consumables rather than universal, and a wick that has stiffened with mineral no longer evaporates whatever the tank level says.
