Lubricants and Accessories

Lubricants, penetrants and anti-seize: Blaster PB penetrating oil, silicone and chain and cable lubricants, Fluid Film, 3-IN-ONE silicone garage door lubricant, and AGS Thread-Magic anti-seize. These do four different jobs and substituting one for another is the usual error. A penetrant creeps into a seized thread and is a release agent rather than a lubricant, so it should be cleaned off and followed with the right oil or grease. Silicone leaves a dry non-staining film, does not swell rubber and does not attract grit — it is what belongs on weatherstrip, garage door rollers and plastic tracks where an oil would collect dust into a paste. Chain and cable lubricant is formulated to resist fling under load. Anti-seize goes on threads you expect to take apart later, particularly where two different metals meet.
