Freud and Diablo bits for drilling and profiling wood: high speed steel Forstner bits from 1/4 through 2 in., spade bits, bearing-guided flush trim, round over and Roman ogee profiles, and cobalt pilot drills.
Forstner bits cut flat-bottomed holes and overlapping bores that a spade or auger bit cannot manage; they want low speed and a firm hold. Check shank size against the chuck or collet you are running.
Spade bits are the largest group, followed by Forstner bits, and the spade bits have hex shanks.
