Potting Mix and Garden Soil

Potting mixes, compost and soil amendments: Black Gold all-purpose and organic potting mixes in 8 qt, 16 qt and 1.5 cu ft, cacti and succulent mix, organic garden compost, and garden gypsum. Potting mix and garden soil are not interchangeable — potting mix is a soilless blend built to drain and stay airy in a container, garden soil is heavy and compacts into a brick in a pot. Buy containers by quart and beds by cubic foot, and expect a pot to need more than it looks like, since mix settles substantially when first watered. Cacti and succulent mix is coarser on purpose and is what to use for anything that rots in wet feet. Gypsum is a calcium and sulfur amendment for compacted clay, not a fertilizer.
