Propane and Fuels

Fuel choice sets the flame temperature and therefore the job — propane is the general-purpose fuel for soldering copper and heating fasteners, and higher-output fuels are what you step to for brazing or for large-diameter tube. Torch heads and cylinders thread to a standard connection but are not universal across every fuel, so confirm the fitting. Rod material has to match the base metal and the filler has to melt below it; a bronze brazing rod joins steel without melting it, an aluminum rod needs a much narrower heat window and is the hardest of these to run.
