Comtrad Drawer Slides
Comtrad drawer slides for cabinets, furniture, workbenches and equipment drawers: ball-bearing full-extension slides, soft-close and self-closing slides, under-mount and side-mount styles, keyboard slides and heavy-duty slides. Lengths run from about 8 to 60 inches and load ratings from 100 to 500 lb. Ships to the lower 48 states and DC.
How to choose a drawer slide
1. Length
Measure the inside depth of the cabinet, from the face frame or front edge to the back wall, and pick the longest slide that fits. Slides are named by their closed length (for example 18 in or 450 mm). Metric slides are listed with their inch length too, so a 450 mm slide reads as 17.7 in.
2. Extension
Full extension slides open the drawer its whole length so you can reach the back. Over-travel slides go past full extension, which helps when a countertop overhangs the drawer. Three-quarter slides cost less but leave the back of the drawer under the cabinet.
3. Closing
Soft-close slides catch the drawer and pull it shut gently. Self-closing slides pull the drawer closed for the last inch or two without the damper. Push-to-open slides let you open a handle-less drawer with a press.
4. Side mount or under mount
Side-mount slides fasten to the drawer sides and cabinet walls and need clearance on each side of the drawer, usually 1/2 in. Under-mount slides hide below the drawer box for a clean look and usually need a drawer built to the slide's spec. Check the listing for the clearance each slide needs.
5. Load rating
Pick a rating above what the full drawer will weigh. Light kitchen and furniture drawers are fine at 100 lb; file drawers, tool storage and equipment trays often need 150 to 500 lb.
6. Pair or single
Most drawers need two slides, one per side. Some listings are sold as a pair, and some as a single member or single side, so order two of those. The "Sold as" line on each product says which.
