Foam-backed abrasive sponges used by hand, without a sander. The foam conforms to a profile, so these reach into mouldings, spindles and radiused edges that a flat sheet skips over. Thickness sets how much the sponge gives — 3/16 in. for barely contoured work, up to 1 in. firm foam that stays flat on a flat face. Three-sided EKASILK sponges carry a different grit on each face, and the no-shed grades are for finish work where loose grit in the coating is the problem.
