- Tensile strength: 18 lb miniature ties for light wire; 40 lb standard for most bundling; 50 lb and up for hoses, fencing and heavier loads
- UV black vs. natural: use UV-stabilized black ties outdoors or near windows; natural (white) nylon is fine indoors and is easy to color-check
