Packaging Cost Calculator: Cost per Unit, Monthly Spend and Dim Weight

Quick answer: cost per unit = case price ÷ units per case. Monthly spend = cost per unit × units used per month. For boxes, dimensional (dim) weight = length × width × height in inches ÷ 139, and carriers bill whichever is higher: the actual weight or the dim weight, rounded up to the next pound. How to use it

  • Use the case price on the product page or from your quote; the calculator has no built-in prices.
  • Compare two products by running each one's case price and count: the lower cost per unit wins, not the lower case price.
  • Check dim weight before picking a box size. Shrinking a box by an inch on each side can drop the billable weight.

FAQ

How do I calculate cost per unit from a case price?

Divide the case price by the number of units in the case. A case at $50 with 1,000 units costs $0.05 per unit.

How do I estimate monthly supply spend?

Multiply the cost per unit by the units you use each month. Since you buy whole cases, round the cases per month up to the next full case.

What is dim weight?

Dimensional weight is a box's size converted to pounds: length × width × height in inches ÷ 139. UPS and FedEx use 139 for daily rates and bill whichever is higher, the actual or the dim weight.

Why use divisor 139?

139 is the standard UPS and FedEx daily-rate divisor. Some retail or contract rates use a different divisor, so check your carrier agreement.

Can I get bulk or pallet pricing?

Yes. Supply Tie offers bulk and pallet pricing and Net 30 terms for business buyers, and ships to the lower 48 states and DC. Request a price check.
