Match the receptacle amperage to the branch circuit rather than to the appliance — a 15 amp 5-15R belongs on 14 gauge wire, a 20 amp device on 12. GFCI protection is what the code calls for at kitchens, baths, garages, outdoors and anywhere near water, and locking receptacles keep equipment from being pulled loose by its own cord. Outlet safety plugs and protectors are stocked for finished spaces with small children.
